Artist Statement
Drawing from a love of history and fantasy, my work explores the idea that all the world’s cultures and myths share a common ancestor in truth. Using shape, tone, and temperature to construct an ambiguous space; motifs are laid out in such a way to mimic the ambiguity and perceived spontaneity of music. My work is found through the act rather than from a place of clinical planning. Why? Mystery is more exciting; the things I CAN’T know the things I CAN’T see. My process takes the form of a noetic archeology. I gather techniques from my ancestors and curate a process that draws from the entire timeline of history. My work often starts from a place of rage and it reflects my personal spiritual journey as I grow.
“Adrian came into the Portfolio Program as a Junior with big hopes and dreams, planning to pursue animation. He was to become the first artist in his family (one of his brothers was an aerospace engineer and the other a musician). Adrian’s progress in the program was extremely rapid. While building his skills, he realized what his true passion was– he abandoned the idea of animation and started to pursue painting. His college portfolio became truly professional gallery quality. When he applied to SAIC, his artwork was acknowledged by a full tuition 4-year scholarship. It meant that Adrian was offered to attend four years of college for FREE, plus the school would give him $4,000 for relocation expenses and books. Surprisingly, Adrian chose his dream school, USC. After a few years, he returned to Prima Materia to continue his professional development in the Mentorship Program. In two years, Adrian’s dream came true: he became a studio artist.”
